HEATER

When last Thursday rolled around we didn’t know if  Seattle Seahawks linebacker “The Heater” David Hawthorne would even take the field.

He participated in pre-game warmups and was declared active after passing his pregame tests.

Knee problems have bothered him at times during the season, including last week. But play he did, and what a great game. So good in fact that the Seattle Seahawks middle linebacker has been named the Week 13 NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Hawthorne is the first Seahawks Linebacker since Lofa Tatupu in 2007 to win this award.

Nice week it was for the Seahawks as well in a 31-14 victory over the Eagles last Thursday night.

A national TV audience saw the game versus the Eagles on NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football.

The Seahawks middle linebacker returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown, in the 4th quarter picking off Eagles QB Vince Young. He also shared the team lead with six tackles.

This is the first time Hawthorne has been honored.

This follows Chris Clemons getting the same award in Week 11 versus the Rams.

Chris Clemons was the pick following his three-sack, two-forced fumble game.

Hawthorne, a third-year starter, leads Seattle with 78 tackles, and could become the sixth player in franchise history to lead the team for three consecutive seasons.

Close Call

Defensive back Brandon Browner was also nominated for the NFC Defensive Player of the week, with 2 Interceptions off of Vince Young on Thursday night.

Up next for Hawthorne he and his Seattle teammates play the St. Louis Rams on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
